The winter solstice holds the longest night of the year. From here on out, the daylight time increases. Leading up to this, the darkness has increased. This is simple astronomical fact.

As the Romantic writers and others have shown our species throughout history, we may consider the order of nature and the universe in order to look within ourselves individually and collectively. We don’t like to do that in this advanced day and age.

How advanced are we? We are steeped in darkness. Many choose willing ignorance because they could not bear to see true light or love. Dictatorial rulers are making a comeback, because to those many who support them, the promise of light to them is wealth, power, control, and superiority. Darknesses like these have held sway throughout much of our history.

Many others simply have not awakened to the power of Self, to avail themselves of the reason we have all come here: to express the unique composition of mortality and immortality, of ego and heart, of light and darkness, of body and spirit and acknowledge all these wonderful polarities and reconcile them into creating. Creators, that is what we are.
