Earth Day, Literature, Policies, and Connections

(Take It from a Shaman)

Except for the first bit of this, I published this first in 2016. I wrote another article last year that is really about the possibility that we won’t have Earth if we don’t wake up. I have written a fair number of posts about Earth, the environment, and nature besides Earth Day-specific posts.

These prolific pines that my puppies and I saw daily were filled with birds, nests, and squirrels — at least. They cut down the one on the right because it could have sometime in the future interfered with an underground pipeline. The pipeline should have been moved or shut down. Period.

Let me make this clear. Many think a virus is an enemy and will wipe us out, but we, ourselves, are going to be far worse than a virus and far more deadly if we don’t wake up. This current administration’s undoing of environmental protections and regulations that protect our Earth and resources will produce a silent spring, as I write about below.

In addition to the clear science that shows this Republican administration to be stupid, dangerous, and destructive — egomaniacs of the worst sort because they believe their own lies — I have studied and taught literature over the course of many decades. I observe that for millenia Nature and humanity have always been closely linked, necessarily linked, and essential for a quality life. This is not just a generalization in fiction; it’s also scientific.
