Confusion Conclusions: Your Heart Is Right Where You Parked It!

If you would, call to mind a scene I believe you have witnessed at some point. You are on a parking lot, a large one, at a mall or shopping center or a paid spot at a sporting event where tens of thousands of cars flood lots. Now, as you climb in your car after your experience, you see someone swiveling their head, hitting their key fob, or walking up and down each aisle.
That person “lost” the car. At least it’s lost to them. If a description were given and broadcast, someone probably knows exactly where that car is. But not this poor guy, the owner.
What might happen to the owner? What might he think? Car stolen. Angry ex-spouse tracked it down. Repossessed — mistakenly, of course. Any of these could be right, but all of them could be wrong because there are more options, at least one more: he just forgot.
What happens when people forget something like this? They feel disoriented, unsure of themselves, ascribe blame or bad motives to others. They may feel ashamed. Very few ask for help. They bungle around till they eventually find what they lost, or if they’re wealthy, maybe they just buy a new car.
